What is a corporation?
A corporation is a legal entity that is created under federal or provincial law. For the most part, a corporation can pretty much do anything that a person can. For example, a corporation can own and sell assets, enter into contracts, borrow and lend money and sue and be sued. The owners of a corporation are called shareholders. A corporation can have one or more owners. As owners of a corporation the shareholders do not directly own the corporation’s business. The shareholders own the corporation but it is the corporation that owns the business.
